Workout Sunday January 18, 2009

Hang power clean 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 reps

I'm still pretty bad at power cleans, but I'm making progress. I made it to 148 lbs, but hit a mental wall at 158 lbs. Next time I should be able to break through that.

Long weekends mean brunch

I took full advantage of the long weekend and stayed late at my friend's art opening. I slept in, and was starving when I finally got going. I had the classic, and added the cottage cheese dish from last night.

Meal:
  • Raw cottage cheese with strawberries and granloa
  • 2 eggs fried in butter
  • French bread toast with butter and strawberry jam
  • Coffee with milk
I was out of OJ, and have stopped taking my multivitamin. I also have an entire duck. I am lobbying for that to be the centerpiece of the dinner party tonight.

Ooo baby I like it raw

After running my morning errands and before I went out for the Ollie magazine shoot, I had a snack. I wasn't hungry enough for a full lunch, so I had raw milk cottage cheese with home made, or at least far made, granola. I chopped up a few strawberries to round it out. The cottage cheese was delicious, and impossibly rich. I can't wait to eat the rest of it. The granola was also very rich, and tasted like they hadn't skimped a bit on the butter.

Then, off to King Kog and a good deal of waiting. I helped call a few people to organize the shoot, and I had assumed messenger time was in effect and lied a little about when to get there. However many showed up on time, which was actually early. After Tak finished with Gina, the Empire and Mishka riders went across the street for a group shot under the BQE. I didn't freeze too badly, but I wasn't sad when we were done. I went home and cooked up the second Rainbow trout. I ate the skin no problem. After two rounds of friend chicken, fish skin was child's play. I had some cheese with it, which was just as creamy as the cottage cheese. I'm going to have order some ice cream and lose my mind.

Meal:
  • Pan-fried rainbow trout
  • Kale satueed in sesame oil and balsalmic vinegar
  • Smoked raw milk cheddar
  • Raw milk colby
  • Pickled beets

Prior to heading out into the bright icebox

My digestive system seems to be adapting just in time for the addition of pork next week. Regardless, breakfast remains an unadventurous meal. I had The Classic before I braved the cold to pick up my weekly shipment with a stop at the farmers market on the way home. I'm going to ride my bike, which is either keeping it real or just real stupid.

I think the temperature has barely edged into the double digits, so it's probably the latter.

Fried chicken, American Style

This was a surprisingly grueling week at work. Surprising because there was little actual work, and lots of meetings. I wasn't ready for dinner when I got home, but I did need a snack before I went to get my hair trimmed. So I had a little hummus, some grapes and a glass of wine.

I was still pretty beat after Ken's birthday, so I cancelled on Jack. We were supposed to finish working out the riff from when we played last week and come up with at least one other.

On the way home from getting my hair cut, I tried to determine what I wanted to eat. John had got very upset with me when he learned I had eaten fried chicken without first consulting him. John is from North Caroline and know fried chicken in I way I cannot imagine. When I pressed him, all he could tell me was that American style, not Korean, was the way to go and that Jimmy's Diner was the best fried chicken in the neighborhood. It was onthe way home from my hair cut, I didn't feel like having fish again, and I wasn't prepared to make the turkey. That pretty much settled it, and I got the fired chicken plate to go. It came with a few pieces of meat and mashed potatoes with gravy. I picked up a Rogue Deadguy Ale to wash it down. I was obsessed with the band Deadguy a few years back, at the same time I was obsessed with a girl from Austin. She knew that, and the first time I visited her, she had a sixpack of this waiting for me in her refrigerator.

Later, my brother came by and we caught up over some Hudson Whiskey. I was introduced to this whiskey at a cheese and whiskey tasting I went to with an ex led by LeNell. It was as excellent as I remembered. I had more than a few sips this time, and I savored its sweet flavor. The ingredients were so fresh it seemed I could taste the corn. The corn tasted like the stuff my uncle's roommate Jay would take me to steal during the summer when I was thirteen years old and my family lived with him. Jay would come home drunk and take me out to pick corn in fields near the house, and offer me marijuana when we returned. The Four Grain Bourbon really took me back. It also made me a little drunk.

Next, sausage

Lunch was Green Symphony with Adam. I reviewed a legal agreement for him, explaining some terms and making my best guess at the rest. I had the spinach dish, with turkey sausage. The sausage was very rubbery, and Adam informed that was normal. In fact, he doesn't eat sausage much unless it's very high quality. I didn't finish the dish and will be employing that strategy in the future for food I don't like.

Meal - Green Symphony salad bar:
  • Tofu and pea salad
  • Potato Samosa
  • Braised Brussel Sprouts
  • Feta and lettuce salad
  • Spinach and turkey sausage casserole

Bacon's first stop

John is in town from Germany. Like old times, we went to Shopsins. Kenny, Ann, Benoir (sp?) and the rest remembered me, which was flattering. They are all still wonderfully crazy.

I had a Tommy Pete, which is 3 poached eggs, spiced garlic bread, turkey bacon, cheddar, tomato, scallions.

John and I talked about work and life. He is enjoying Germany a lot. He also had a very nice to thing to say about me. He said I was a match in dry forest looking ready to strike. I hope he is right.
